On a glorious July afternoon for the Lancashire Rugby Community, 50,209 packed into the Hill Dickinson Stadium, bathed in sunshine, to see England end a five-match loosing streak with an emphatic historic 8-73 win against Fiji.
Staging the game in Merseyside rather than the South Pacific handed England a competitive advantage in the Nations Championship, which they took full advantage of when Fiji were reduced to 14 men just before half-time. England racked up 11 tries, including a second half hat-trick from Pollock, to set up a terrific performance 7 days later in a hard fought 24-31 victory over Argentina in Santiago del Estero, to finish the summer on a high.
England should play in the North West more often!
